Culture and history

For some history (of Drenthe), you must go to the Brink, in the center of the city. Here you will find the recently reopened Drents Museum and Drents Archief. A little bit further, you will find the statue of Bartje. Bartje Bartels is the main character in the books of Anne de Vries. It is about a boy that is growing up in a poor farm laborer's familiy and who started to resist his fate more and more. Bartje's famous exclamation when mother is serving brown beans and father calls to prayer: “Ik bid nie veur bruune boon’n” is very well known.
